DFGW creates trailer for BBC2 show

DFGW has created a television campaign to promote a new BBC2 drama series called If.

If is a documentary-style series depicting what the future would be like if a number of scenarios came to pass. The scenarios are based on big environmental and demographic issues, including the ageing population, energy crisis and inequality.

The 40-second trailer aims to capture the idea of the show by featuring people who ignore everyday warning signs, and the disastrous consequences.

Jules Andree-Wiltens, an account manager at DFGW, said: "This trail is a powerful demonstration of the events that exist all around us right now. Showing people ignoring the warning signs alerts viewers to the potentially disastrous future we all face, a future the programmes themselves will explore in more depth."

The ad opens on a shot of a dark room with a couple sleeping. The baby monitor by their bed goes off yet neither of them stir. The shot cuts to a security guard oblivious to the barks of his guard dogs. In a car park, car alarms are triggered one by one to no effect. The final scene is of an old lady in a hospital bed with her heart monitor bleeping as the power cuts out. The nurses continue their rounds, oblivious.

A voiceover says: "What will happen if we ignore the warnings? It's your wake-up call."

The ad was written by Dan Gorlov and art directed by Rachel Le Fuevre.

The ad was directed by Steve Cope at BBC Broadcast.
