Mazur, who departed last week, is thought to have left after missing out on a promotion to the chief executive's role in January. He leaves with no job to go to.

The chief executive post went to Jonathan Shephard, previously chief executive of the Independent Schools Council, who joined PPA in April.

The trade body is reviewing the future of the deputy chief executive post. Shephard said the PPA wouldlikely make it redundant and replace it with a chief operating officer.

Mazur had been deputy chief executive since 2000. Before that, he was marketing director at software company i2. He worked at the PPA between 1990 and 1997, serving as director of information.

The PPA has a membership of nearly 400 publishing companies, which publish more than 2,500 consumer, business and professional magazines. It also produces a range of directories and websites, along with organising conferences, exhibitions and awards.
