Christian Harris, Deezer’s UK and Ireland managing director, is leading the process and has contacted agencies with the brief.
A company spokesman said it would invest millions in advertising in the UK over the next three years. The campaign will kick off with digital and TV ads in the second quarter of the year.
This is the first time that the brand has sought external advertising support. Much of its marketing has focused on social media, including video interviews with bands such as Foo Fighters.
The spokesman said: "We’ve reached a stage in our growth where we have an excellent product, we have 16 million customers and we are actively playing a part in building the new audio economy, but we know we can do more work on making this brand famous and loved, especially in the UK, and making Deezer a mass-market proposition."
Deezer does not have a retained media shop and is not looking for one. However, the spokesman said it was "talking to media agencies for assistance on tactical activity".
