Dedbeat festival hires Suburb for visual identity work

LONDON – Dedbeat, the annual three-day music festival that showcases underground and leftfield artists, has hired design agency Suburb to create an visual identity across all media applications.

The project includes design and development of the front and back end of the new website , as well as producing press advertisements, posters, flyers and a 32-page mini-information brochure written in collaboration with BBC Collective, the online music, films and culture magazine.

Design includes a graffiti adaption of the skull-and-crossbones logo previously designed by Suburb in early 2003. As well as art directing, interior decoration and moving image sequences for the event, Suburb is also designing a range of merchandise to include branded sweaters, tracksuit zip tops, baseball caps and hip flasks.

Dedbeat 4 runs from Friday April 23 to Sunday April 25. BBC Television will be filming the event, as well as BBC Radio One broadcasting the festival. Now in its fourth year, the festival is split into three genres: beat ranks, pulse ranks and slump ranks with a focus on hip-hop.

More than 65 artists, DJs and bands will be performing at the event, including Mercury Music Award winner Talvin Singh and soul singer Gwen McCrae at the Pontins holiday centre in Norfolk.

Suburb's recent projects include designing the new Agent Provocateur website, CiTV website redesign and online work for the FA Premier League.
