Debut at Cannes for Jalipo IPTV revenue platform

CANNES - A broadband distribution network for TV and video content, Jalipo, is preparing to launch at the MIP TV trade show in Cannes next month.

The service, which has high-profile backing from both the broadcast and web sectors, gives content owners the ability to distribute content to any device with a web connection anywhere in the world.

Users would pay per minute to view the content, using pre-purchased Jalipo credits, and the majority of revenue would be returned to the content owner.

The company has yet to announce its content partners, but is seeking high-end content, from sporting events to films, whether from individuals or large media companies.

Jalipo believes its patented technology offers several advantages, including the ability to control where the content is accessible, to avoid jeopardising offline distribution details.

There are currently no plans to pursue advertising, but the technology and business structure would permit this at a later date.

The co-founders include Chris Deering, former president of Sony Europe, and Alex Taylor, an IT specialist with experience at Nortel Networks and web streaming company Eonstreams, who has been appointed chief executive.

Lindsey Oliver joins from Al Jazeera English as Jalipo's commercial director and Philip McDanell, previously group managing director of Chrysalis Group and director of operations for Yahoo! Europe, has signed on as a director.

The official launch is at MIP TV in Cannes from 16 to 20 April.
