
Telegraph Media Group has confirmed that the price of Saturday's paper will rise from £1.50 to £1.60 while its weekday papers will go up from 80p to 90p. It will not increase the price of The Sunday Telegraph.
A spokeswoman for The Guardian confirmed that its Saturday title would rise from £1.50 to £1.60 this weekend. Its weekday newspaper price will remain unchanged at 80p.
The changes mean that on weekdays, the 90p Daily Telegraph will now cost 10p more than rivals The Guardian and The Times, which are both priced 80p.
The price hikes are seen as part of a shift by the quality newspapers toward placing greater focus on their subscription services.
The most advanced subscription models in the UK are run by the Telegraph Media Group, Financial Times and Times Media, which last week launched its , called Culture+, in a push to derive more revenue from subscribers. All three titles have now hiked their cover prices in the past six months.
The increases come a week after The Times raised its own costs to match its quality daily newspapers for the first time in 15 years.
