
Launching on crowd-funding platform Kickstarter, the Alt Fest campaign aims to raise a minimum of £30,000 towards creating several parts of the festival, including the main stage headline artists.
Alt Fest will celebrate alternative culture, art, music and lifestyles, and is taking place on 15-17 August 2014 at Boughton House in Kettering, Northamptonshire.
Everyone who contributes via Kickstarter will be asked how they want the festival to be developed.
Having already raised more than £10,000 via their own DIY crowd-funding campaign, Alt Fest has booked 30 bands requested by the fans via polls on its website and Facebook page.
The next phase of funding will allow fans to contribute financially towards the budget for booking the main stage headline act, as wel as increasing the attractions at the festival and on-site facilities – it aims to provide more toilets, showers and custom built changing areas than any other festival in the UK.
The funding raised so far has also allowed the Alt Fest team to plan the festival layout, book a production company to supply the festival infrastructure, appoint ticketing agent clubtickets.com, and link up with ticketlogic.com to create state-of-the-art wristbands. Site and project management is being handled by events management company Full Fat 360 .
Alt Fest was created by husband and wife team Dom and Missy, the founders of Club AntiChrist. Their aim is to change how festivals are created by giving the power back to the fans.
"We aren't a big corporate machine, and we aren't out to fleece our customers. We just want to create and run a festival where every alternative person can come together to have a good time," said Missy.
Dom added: "Alt Fest is the peoples festival, everyone can be involved, everyone has a say, every part belongs to the people. It's the people working together that will make Alt Fest successful."
