The group behind agencies such as Saatchi & Saatchi and ZenithOptimedia recorded a 19.8% increase in annual revenue from €4.5bn to €5.4bn (£4.6bn), on the back of new business net gains of $5.9bn.

Annual organic growth was 8.3% and the company's operating margin rose from 15% to 15.8%.

Annual net income increased by 35% to €551m, despite a 19% increase in staff expenses to €3.3bn.

Levy congratulated staff and claimed the "excellent" results "have put an end to the impact of the global financial crisis, and the Groupe has emerged from this difficult context considerably stronger".

He said: "Our financial situation is extremely robust and enables us to look ahead to the future with serenity.

"Investment will be aimed first and foremost at consolidating our two growth pillars – the digital sector in which we intend to strengthen our leadership position, and high-growth countries, in which we must increase our presence even more rapidly."
