This was one of the recommendations made by the Public Health Commission, a grouping of food, drink and voluntary sector leaders set up by the Conservative Party to suggest how government and the private sector can achieve improvements in health.
Andrew Lansley, the shadow health secretary, said the Tories would create an over-arching social marketing campaign using aims of Change4Life and the soon to be launched ±±¾©Èü³µpk10 for Smarter Drinking if his party came to power. It would focus primarily on a healthy diet, energy and responsible drinking.
The commission, which was chaired by Unilever chairman Dave Lewis, also recommended providing common and consistent nutritional information, standardising portion sizes and extending restrictions on advertising food to children to cover all new and non-broadcast media
Lewis said there is a need for a consistent message and criticised the efforts of the present government. ‘People get lots of information about their health - at work, in schools, in their communities and through the media - but they're not getting clear and consistent support and sufficiently motivating messages.
‘Because the initiatives we have aren't strategic, they don't fit together and they aren't working,' he added.
