Coke may buy 'Royston Vasey' spring for water return

LONDON - Coca-Cola is on the verge of buying a source of natural spring water in the UK, following its highly publicised failure to launch its Dasani brand earlier this year after it was exposed as filtered tap water.

According to reports, the spring is located near the village of Hadfield in Derbyshire, which is probably better known by its fictional title of Royston Vasey, the setting of the cult BBC comedy series 'The League of Gentlemen'.

Coca-Cola is expanding its interests in the bottled water market, but had a setback earlier this year when it launched Dasani in the UK. At first, the company had to face fierce criticism when the fact that Dasani is made from treated tap water, which Coca-Cola had never denied, was splashed all over the media.

The final nail in the coffin of the brand was a withdrawal of all the supplies in the UK, after the water was found to be contaminated. Coca-Cola has shelved plans for a relaunch and it has affected the rollout of the brand in the rest of Europe.

According to reports, Coca-Cola has confirmed that it is interested in the Derbyshire site but no purchase price has been revealed.
