The new contract will make Clear Channel and ATAC, Rome's municipal transport company, jointly responsible for the upkeep of the Enthoven Associates-designed bus shelters. The shelters were chosen to fit in with the city's historic streetscape and provide digital bus time information.
The deal, which will create a further 1,200 advertising panels, is in addition to an existing one with ATAC, which presently includes 400 bus shelters and 8,000 bus stops across Rome. Clear Channel won similar contracts for London and Washington DC last year.
Paul Meyer, Clear Channel Outdoor's global president, said: "This win significantly strengthens our position in Europe following major street furniture wins in London, Lille and Bordeaux, France, and Verona, Italy.
"We are committed to developing partnerships with cities that increase their revenue opportunities and provide innovative services for their citizens. For our advertisers, this win means an enhanced choice of high-quality advertising sites in one of Europe's greatest cities."
Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, Clear Channel currently has more than 870,000 displays in more than 50 countries across six continents.
