When complete in June, the new system will include 149 maps and information panels along with the 300 ad sites.

The system builds on Clear Channel's presence in Scotland. It already has street furniture contracts in Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

The signs replace the existing blue tourist signs in the city and will be situated on key routes including London Road, Gallowgate and Moir Street, as well as George Square, Buchanan Station and Howard Street, though ads are not permitted in the conservation areas of the city.

The first sign was unveiled last week by Councillor Steven Purcell, the leader of Glasgow City Council and chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau.

Dave Huckerby, development director, Clear Channel Outdoor, said the company has worked closely with Glasgow City Council to develop an "integrated street furniture strategy" in line with the "topography and character" of the city.
