Nieri and managing director Janet McKay will preside over the new operations board and the existing management board.
The operations board will focus on the agency's internal organisation, while the management board will address client and industry issues.
The management board has been expanded to include CMW Interactive head Sean Hanneberry and CMW planning director Ben Rachel. According to the agency, the interactive division has grown strongly with work for TfL and Cadbury's, and Hannebury's appointment allows it to draw on broader resources.
Chairman Jonathan Clark said that the changes tackled the critical issues of succession planning, client focus, and the opportunities of digital convergence.
"In Martin Nieri, we have someone who represents the fresh new face of Clark McKay & Walpole and as former client services director, brings the client focus and understanding required for this role of deputy managing director," he said.
The agency is looking for a replacement client services director. Nieri was in the job since August 2004 and has been at the agency for four-and-a-half years. Before joining he was an account director at WWAV Rapp Collins.
The London agency has taken on 13 staff since its acquisition by marketing services group Media Square last September, and now has 85 people.
