Chrysalis to ditch web business

LONDON Chrysalis, the media company whose internet interests have taken their toll on profits, is thinking of axing its entire web business.

The company has spent nearly all of a £27 million fund raised last year specifically for new media investments, and is now considering selling two of the three loss-making ventures it still owns.

Citipages, in which Chrysalis invested £4 million, Darkerthanblue.com, which had £3 million ploughed into it, are both set to run out of money within months.

The company wants to spend the remaining £5 million on sports website Rivals.net, which is also making a loss.

Chairman and co-founder Chris Wright said it had the potential to be a success, and said he wanted to nurture it rather than waste cash on the other two ventures.

It is unclear whether Chrysalis will sell its interests entirely or offer stakes in them to other investors.
