LONDON - MySpace has appointed the general manager of its Spain and Portugal office, Christopher Moser, as new UK managing director.

His appointment follows recent upheaval at the News Corp-owned social network. The site reduced its employees from 450 to 150 outside the US and cut its US workforce by 30%.

Moser will replace Anthony Lukom, who left the business last month. His departure followed about 100 job cuts at MySpace's UK international office, including its international chief Travis Katz.

Last week, MySpace confirmed Katz is leaving the company, as first revealed by Media Week last month. He will be replaced by Rebekah Horne, former MySpace general manager of Europe and Australia.

Before becoming general manager for Spain and Portugal at MySpace, Moser was vice-president digital sales and marketing for Europe at Sony Music Entertainment.

He also worked as consultant corporate development at Bertelsmann after joining as assistant at AOL Bertelsmann Europe.
