Chris Evans Saturday show a hit for Radio 2 online

LONDON – Chris Evans' return to BBC Radio has generated a quarter-of-a-million page impressions and 28,000 programme downloads in less than two weeks.

Evans joined Radio 2 to host a three-hour Saturday afternoon show from 2pm to 5pm from September 17, where he has managed to notch up 40,000 on-demand stream requests as well as 250,000 page impressions.

So far, high-profile guests have included Robbie Williams, Stephen Fry, Coldplay's Chris Martin and Katie Melua.

Evans' return to BBC Radio marks a break of eight years after he famously quit his Radio 1 breakfast show to join Virgin in 1997.

DJ and 'Big Brother' presenter Dermot O'Leary who was displaced by Evans' signing has been handed the 5pm to 7pm Saturday slot on the station.

Jonathan Ross and Terry Wogan also have shows on Radio 2 on Saturday.
