Chipotle's new animated film uses childhood romance to slam fake ingredients

After business woes and a health scare, chain touts real food in first animated spot since 2013

After three years, Chipotle has released another animated film. "A Love Story" follows the rivalry and eventual partnership of two entrepreneurial children as they build and abandon fast food empires. The 4-minute spot debuted Wednesday and features a rendition of The Backstreet Boys’ 1999 ballad "I Want It That Way," performed as a duet by Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes and Jim James of My Morning Jacket. On Friday, the spot will begin running in theaters ahead of movie previews. While the film promotes the use of simplified, natural ingredients, Chipotle has sought to regain its footing after foodborne illnesses broke out at many of its locations last year, and the company placed its CMO on leave after drug charges.
