The site features previews of upcoming shows as well as highlights and archived clips from Channel 4’s 25-year history.
The broadcaster said the aim is to push people through to its video-on-demand service where they can watch ad-supported long-form content as well as purchasing programmes. Channel 4 will sell advertising around the video clips.
The launch of channel4.com/tvclips marks the first stage of an agreement between Channel 4 and online video company Brightcove that will lead to more broadband TV channels going live before the end of the year.
Channel 4’s TV clips site has gone live with 1000 clips, but will launch fully in the New Year, the broadcaster said today.
Brightcove launched in the UK in 2007 and has picked up clients including BSkyB, IPC Media and Telegraph Media Group.
