Channel 4 beefs up third-party content

Channel 4 plans to ramp up third-party content available via its PC and TV-based video-on-demand service 4degD as it continues to diversify beyond its core ad-funded TV channel.

Sarah Rose, head of VoD and channel development, said: "We want to bring in more blue-chip content brands such as National Geographic to broaden the offer. We will bring in more third-party content on the PC version, although we will probably not do so much on the TV version since capacity is limited on pay-TV platforms."

The move comes as C4 prepares to launch a high-definition channel via the Sky satellite platform next month. Rose added: "As a simulcast HD channel, C4HD will be a new type of HD channel. So we are working to get the technical aspects of the launch ready and to get our programming in the HD format."
