Channel 4 plans live Beagle 2 broadcast from Mars

LONDON - Channel 4 is planning a live broadcast from Mars as part of its Christmas schedule to celebrate the landing of the British probe Beagle 2.

'Live From Mars' will be one of five lectures from Dr Monica Grady of the Natural History Museum and will be devoted to the Beagle 2, Europe's first probe to Mars, which is due to land on Christmas Day.

Music will come from Alex James of Blur, who along with other band members provided some financial backing to the Beagle 2 project.

James has composed a track 'Mars', which is also accompanying the probe on its flight.

Beagle 2, named to honour Charles Darwin's ship HMS Beagle that carried him on his epic voyage, launched in June 2003 on board the Mars Express after being launched aboard a Soyuz rocket.

The design of the Beagle 2 landing spacecraft was led by a British consortium of universities, research support teams and industry.
