Channel 4 pits Russell Brand up against Jonathan Ross

LONDON - Channel 4 is to launch a talkshow vehicle for celebrity comedian and tabloid regular Russell Brand, understood to be pitched against Jonathan Ross' 11pm Friday night show on BBC 1.

Brand's show will combine celebrity interviews, comedy sketches and live acoustic performances. Guests already confirmed for the show include Courtney Love and Morrissey.

Each week, the series will combine a unique blend of Russell's comic humour, with celebrity interviews, comedy sketches, topical chat on the week's funniest news stories and live acoustic performances from some of the most popular bands in the country.

Angela Jain, Channel 4's factual entertainment commissioning editor, said: "We're delighted to welcome Russell Brand onto Channel 4, especially because he's undoubtedly the man of the moment."

The show will comprise five 40-minute episodes, and is being made by independent producers Vanity Productions.

Just last week, BBC Radio bosses rewarded Brand, who presented 'Big Brother' spin-off 'Big Brother's Big Mouth' on E4, with a move to Radio 2 after only seven months on the corporation's digital alternative station 6 Music.
