Executives have ordered a review of its news operation. It is thought the Channel 4 news bulletins could also be at risk.

Earlier this month Channel 4 chief executive Andy Duncan said the channel would cut 10% from its £600m annual programming budget this year as advertising revenue continues to fall.

The broadcaster has estimated that ad revenue will fall by 18% in the first half of 2009.

Channel 4 News, broadcast from Monday to Friday at 7pm, is watched by up to a million viewers. It is fronted by Jon Snow and popular with politicians and legislators.

Channel 4 cut its content budget by £25m in 2008, to just under £600m, and had originally planned a further £25m cut this year. It revealed earlier this month, however, that it would instead be cutting between £60m and £75m from its content budget in 2009.

More 4 News, a half-hour bulletin shown weekdays at 8pm, attracts around 33,000.
