The second instalment of 'I'm a Celebrity' was watched by an average 9.7m viewers and attracted a 38% audience share between 9pm and 10pm last night.
The show peaked at 10.4m in the final five minutes. Last year, the second episode of the third series pulled in 9.6m.
Meanwhile in the camp, Independent on Sunday editor-at-large Street-Porter's straight talking has seen her popularity soar with viewers from eighth favourite to win to fifth -- pushing Natalie Appleton and Antonio Fargas's, aka Huggy Bear, odds back further.
Warren Lush, spokesman for bookmaker Ladbrokes, said: "Punters admire her courage and no-nonsense attitude. We have seen plenty of support for her and been forced to cut her odds on winning from 10/1 to 7/1."
Street-Porter's performance in the snake-themed challenge tonight could affect her popularity if she does well. Last year Jordan, who was favourite to get the boot at the start, became a bookies' favourite after completing all her challenges, including a creepy crawly and snake helmet and a bug-eating contest.
The other contestants' odds remain unchanged with squeaky-voiced comedian Joe Pasquale favourite to win at 3/1, ex-East 17 singer Brian Harvey second at 5/1 and nightclub owner Fran Cosgrove is still in third place at 6/1.
Favourite to be evicted from the jungle is still model and ex-cocaine addict Sophie Anderton with odds of 3/1, although former Royal butler Paul Burrell has had his odds slashed from 4/1 to 3/1.
