Celebrities line up for ads to promote new-look BBC site

LONDON - DJ Judge Jules, pop star Katie Melua and the newsreader Fiona Bruce are among the celebrities taking part in an 'Alice in Wonderland'-themed campaign to promote the new-look BBC website.

The campaign broke this week and runs across television, radio and online. It is loosely based on the theme of 'Alice in Wonderland' and stars comedian and presenter Steve Furst as the White Rabbit, guiding viewers through the world wide wonderland that is .

The campaign breaks ahead of next week's launch of the new-look homepage. It was created by BBC Broadcast and is the first time that the BBC has promoted its website as a whole.

Presenter and newsreader Fiona Bruce will promote the news broadband console, while Judge Jules, Katie Melua, DJ Sanj and the Archers promote the BBC Radio Player.

A separate online advertising campaign, created by , also breaks this week. It promotes the new breaking news desktop alert for , targeting international news seekers in Western Europe.

The campaign will appear on local news sites in Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland, using the strapline "all the news you need". People can sign up to the new service directly through the advertising.

Alan Booth, controller of BBC World Service marketing, communications and audiences, said: "Time is precious commodity and the introduction of breaking news alerts is a unique way of keeping busy people fully briefed as and when events happen."
