The deal with Virgin will see a paperback book released in autumn showing readers how to be more eco-aware, based on the Celador factual entertainment series 'No Waste Like Home'.
The eight-part TV series, which will run on BBC Two, follows families as they take part in a two-week experiment to cut back their energy usage by fitting their homes with solar panels, rain water collection tanks, sheep's wool insulation and recycling bins.
They will be helped by an eco-expert who will show them how much energy and money they are saving by changing their ways.
The 'No Waste Like Home' book will be a practical 'how-to' guide using the TV series families as case studies.
Australia's Nine Network has already licensed the format and bought the UK series.
In addition, Celador are looking to develop a licensed product range of whitegoods and household products in the same way the company extended the 'You Are What You Eat' brand by launching cooking utensils and healthy food range.
The company has said it is in discussions with DIY stores, energy and water companies about promotional ideas.
