A released on the event's website reads: "Regrettably the promoter of the 2009 Cathcart Spring Proms, European Events, has fallen victim to the current economic downturn and this year’s production will not take place."
European Events chief executive Christopher Palmer-Jeffery was the producer and director of the show.
"So many people have worked so hard each year to bring this much-loved, sought-after and unique show to a loyal following, many of whom return each year. Thank you all for your support over the years and my sincere apologies that we will not be sharing the Cathcart dream again this year," he said.
Thewill be refunding all tickets in full, including any bookings made for parking at Imperial College.
It is possible that the event might return in the future. According to the , Palmer-Jeffery "welcomes your feedback about the show and would like to hear your thoughts about future plans for the Cathcart Spring Proms". It goes on to ask, "Do you think we should promote the show ourselves and plan to go ahead in 2010?"
