Bartz said that after "a month and a half in the saddle" she is ready to make changes.

Among these, Yahoo chief technology officer Ari Balogh, will head technology and product operations.

Bartz also said that Marco Boerries, head of Yahoo's Connected Life group, which focuses on bringing Yahoo products to mobile devices, has resigned for personal reasons. Yahoo's mobile efforts will now be led by David Ko, senior vice- president of the Connected Life group.

Chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen is to leave. He replaced former Yahoo number two Susan Decker in the post last June.

Hilary Schneider, Yahoo's chief of advertising, publishing and audience groups in the US, will head Yahoo's North American operations.

Bartz said: "Today, I'm rolling out a new management structure that I believe will make Yahoo a lot faster on its feet.

"For us at Yahoo, it means everything gets simpler. We'll be able to make speedier decisions, the notorious silos are gone and we have a renewed focus on the customer."

Bartz added that she has further changes in the pipeline. Without detailing these plans, she said: "In the past few years, we haven't been as clear in showing the world what the Yahoo brand stands for. We're going to change that. Look for this company's brand to kick ass again."
