Carlton signs deal with US entertainment guru Gurin

LONDON - Carlton Communications looks set to expand its reality TV and game show programming after it signed a deal yesterday with a major US independent producer.

The ITV company has signed a deal with Gurin Company, run by entertainment boss Phil Gurin, who is behind US shows such as America's version of 'The Weakest Link'.

The agreement will herald the start of a cross-Atlantic pooling of ideas with Carlton's entertainment staff, Gurin Company and those of Carlton subsidiary Action Time. It is hoped that the partnership will be able to produce more lucrative shows like 'The Weakest Link' and 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?'.

Mark Wells, Carlton's entertainment controller, was enthusiastic about the deal. "Phil Gurin is one of the best-respected entertainment producers in America. An exchange of ideas between Phil's development team in LA and ours based in London makes good creative sense for both sides."

Gurin's current US hit programmes include 'Now or Never: Face Your Fear', 'The Most Incredible Animal Rescues III', as well as well as one-off special 'On This Ice 2: The Dark Side of Skating'.
