Carat faces MindShare and OMD in News International review

LONDON - News International's media review has recommenced, with MindShare and OMD up against long-term incumbent Carat for the £30m account.

Originally announced in June, the review was held up by a management reshuffle at News International, which led to the departure of the News Group Newspapers general manager Richard Webb.

MindShare was freed to enter the running when conflicting client Express Newspapers switched its £10m account to MediaCom last week.

OMD had held Express Newspapers until January, when it switched to MindShare.

The News International pitch is being handled by the AAR and the process is expected to take up to two months, with the winner announced before Christmas.

It covers the media planning and buying for News Group Newspapers' The Sun and The News of the World, and Times Newspapers' The Times and the Sunday Times.

Roland Agambar, marketing director of News Group Newspapers, said: "Carat have provided excellent service to us; however, after so many years, it is time to shake up the process and ensure that we are getting the best value and return for our spend."
