Capital will refocus its evening and late shows to target the core 25-34 market, of which the most recent Rajars gave it a 32% reach and 14% share. A new Entertainment Zone from drive time through to late nights will include exclusive guests and acoustic sessions, as well as coverage of gigs and film premieres.
The repositioning follows an improved performance for 95.8 FM, which saw its audience jump 9% to 2.6m listeners and a share of 8.9%, a big leap from last period's 8.1%, according to the most recent figures from Rajar.
The 95.8 Capital FM breakfast show remains unchanged with Chris Tarrant, but there will be an announcement about its future in November. In April, it was announced that Tarrant was set to stay at Capital Radio after his contract expires next year, ending speculation about his future at the station, which has hit parent company Capital Radio Group's share price in recent months.
The new schedule begins on September 29 and Capital says it will unite the best of Capital FM's heritage with new talent and programming innovations.
Central to this will be the introduction of more music programming across the schedule, with the promise of 30 minutes of music every hour throughout the workday, showcasing the breadth and music variety of Capital FM's output.
Daytime will see a more intensive music mix, while throughout the evening, Capital FM aims to reflect London's nightlife.
At weekends, Capital will put its music firmly in the spotlight with a non-stop party all Saturday night with the new 'Party Capital', six hours of mixed floor fillers followed by 'After Hours' -- four hours of post club chillout and laid-back tracks.
There will be a new weekend breakfast show with Andi Peters and Emma Forbes, who previously worked together presenting BBC children's show 'Live and Kicking'.
According to Pringle: "When you're the most listened to station in town, it's easy to stick with a tried and tested formula. However, we know that to stay ahead of the rest we need to be constantly innovating and evolving to keep pace with London and Londoners. The development of our music policy and new shows across evenings and weekends will highlight our passion for music across the spectrum and give our listeners the quality radio they deserve."
