Capital hires Manning Gottlieb's McGeough for sales role

LONDON - Capital Radio has hired Manning Gottlieb OMD media trading director John McGeough as its sales director.

McGeough will run a customer-led national ad sales team, with a brief to build relationships with agencies and advertisers across Capital's brands, including its Capital FM and Gold networks and Xfm.

He will report to commercial managing director Linda Grant, who began a restructure of the sales operation following her promotion from marketing director in May.

"John has a terrific breadth of knowledge across the whole media spectrum, having run Manning Gottlieb OMD's trading operations with all media owners," Grant said.

The third senior hiring with an agency background, McGeough will work alongside ex-Starcom Motive group account director Gavin Miller, who was appointed last week as commercial marketing director, and Mike Hope-Milne, a former MediaCom head of radio, who was recently promoted to the position of brand sales director.

"[McGeough] combines a creative thinking style with a strong trading skillset, which is an enviable mix. The senior management team is now complete -- all three have entirely complementary skills and expertise combined with an array of experience across the agency, client and media owner arenas," Grant added.

McGeough has worked at Manning Gottlieb OMD since 1997 as broadcast director, and joined the board as an associate director in 2000. He took control of the agency's buying operations last year.

According to McGeough: "This is exactly the right move at the right time for me. I was attracted to the dynamism of Capital and Linda's clear vision for backing strong media brands with a highly tuned customer-led sales operation. Having spent the last 12 years of my career on the agency side, I think I can bring an agency-style trading perspective to the existing ad sales team at Leicester Square."

McGeough joins the radio group later in the year.
