Capital Radio Digital will begin broadcasting across the South Coast from January 2004. It will also carry Brighton & Hove Local Radio's Juice 107.2, gay and lesbian service Gaydar Radio, alongside Capital Gold and the BBC's local Southern Counties Radio.
The service will broadcast alongside Digital One, the digital radio operator backed by Classic FM owner GWR, which already has a digital radio licence in the South Coast area.
Meanwhile, Emap's digital music TV and radio station The Hits has launched in London on the London II multiplex, operated by Switch Digital. Switch is owned by US radio giant Clear Channel.
Originally launched as a TV channel for the BBC-backed digital terrestrial service Freeview, The Hits is based on the format of Emap Performances Big City network of radio stations.
Their music policy is described by the company as a broad chart-based format of hits from today and yesterday, aimed at an audience of 15- to 45-year-olds.
