Media Planning has restructured its television department in a bid
to offer clients more integrated and interactive campaigns.
The restructure follows the departure of managing partner and head of
broadcast Russell Boyman, who plans to travel the world. He will be
replaced by broadcast director Andrew Canter, who will sit at the helm
of the restructured department.
The new structure is designed to improve clients’ access to integrated
TV and online campaigns. It will also enable the unit to focus on
developing interactive TV advertising opportunities for clients.
Canter said Orange was typical of clients in that it wanted to purchase
across online and TV. ’The market is developing fast and we have to stay
proactive for our clients,’ he said. ’We need to integrate TV into other
disciplines and work more closely with all the specialists across the
company.’
Canter added that it was ’rare to isolate TV buying from other media
these days’.
Under the new structure, Ivan Ali-Khan has been promoted from senior
buyer to associate director of TV, while two of the team’s senior TV
buyers - Danni Murray and Stephanie Dobson - have been promoted to group
heads of TV. Both Dobson and Murray will be responsible for managing
three television buyers.
The reshuffle leaves Canter’s former role as broadcast director up for
grabs.
Canter, 33, joined Media Planning in 1996 and soon moved up the ranks to
broadcast director.
Canter will take full responsibility for the department from
September.
He is hotly tipped to land the role of managing partner that was
previously held by Boyman.
Meanwhile, Boyman leaves the company after ten years as head of its
broadcast operations. He has worked in media for 25 years, predominantly
in television buying. It is not clear whether he will return to the
industry after his spell globetrotting.
