Camelot ties up with ITV for I'm a Celebrity scratchcard

LONDON - Camelot, the National Lottery operator, is to develop its first scratchcards based on a TV show after signing a licensing deal with ITV for the latest series of 'I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!'.

The scratchcards will be launched in time for the lottery's 10th anniversary draw this weekend, with the partnership forming part of a wider strategy to broaden the mass-market appeal of the draw.

Camelot's chief executive, Dianne Thompson, has identified innovation in areas such as scratchcards as vital to maintaining a ticket sales revival. In April, Camelot reported its first rise in total ticket sales in six years. Sales of non-Lotto games, which include scratchcards and online games, rose by 14% to £748.8m for the year to 25 September.

The successful performance of the National Lottery's scratchcards portfolio has been driven by consumer interest in games based on third-party licences.

In August, Camelot launched a Scrabble-themed £2 scratchcard after striking a licensing deal with games maker Mattel. The company has also produced scratchcards based on classic games including Monopoly and Connect 4, as well as 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'Jaws' movies.
