A seven-storey extension to the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) has been hit by a wave of opposition.
Heritage watchdogs claim the 拢70m project, due for completion by 2008 is too large and will obscure views of Edinburgh Castle 鈥 a World Heritage Site.
In a submission to Edinburgh City Council, Historic Scotland inspector Robin Evetts panned the scheme: 鈥淭he overall height may in fact compete with the prominence of the conference centre, as well as detract from the skyline.
鈥淲e therefore suggest that the overall height of the building should be reviewed,鈥 he said.
The scheme, designed by Terry Farrell and Partners, will double EICC鈥檚 capacity.
