In an open letter to the Independent on Sunday, more than 80 leading figures in the music, sport and theatre industries called on the government to introduce new controls on websites selling event tickets.
This letter was sent ahead of a vote on a clause in the Consumer Rights Bill in the House of Commons today, which would force secondary ticketing websites to publish the names of ticket sellers, the face value of the ticket and whether a re-sale breaches terms and conditions.
Secondary ticketing sites allow sellers to charge what they like for festivals, concerts and other music and sporting events. Some sites will purchase tickets in bulk for popular events in order to sell them on at a profit.
The call for reform aims to protect consumers and ensure fair ticket pricing.
The letter's signatories include music promoter Harvey Goldsmith, the Arctic Monkeys, the National Theatre, the Lawn Tennis Association and the Rugby Football Union.
