Cadman's departure from Lowe spurs Tesco speculation

LONDON - Lowe London has confirmed that Mark Cadman is resigning from the company after Garry Lace took over as chief executive.

The news of Cadman's departure makes Lowe's hold on the 拢42m Tesco business seem even more tenuous, because he ran the account along with planning director Russ Lidstone, who quit the agency last week to take up the same role at JWT, and Lowe chairman Paul Weinberger.

北京赛车pk10 magazine reported last week that there were rumours Cadman and Weinberger, who had offered his resignation when Lace was appointed, were considering going out on their own and taking Tesco with them with the backing of an agency holding company.

Since Lace's sudden appointment in the middle of January, it has been speculated that it was only a matter of time before Cadman quit. Not only is he reported to have been promised the chief executive job, but he also is understood to have had a personality clash with Lace when they both worked at Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO in the early 90s.

With reports this week that Lowe has added Nestle to its recent account losses, including Braun and HSBC, Michael Roth, chairman and chief executive of parent company Interpublic Group, is visiting the agency today from New York, and meetings with clients Tesco and Stella Artois are on the cards to try to stem further account losses.

Cadman was an account director at AMV before being poached in 1996 by JWT to head its Kellogg business. He left in 1997 for Ammirati Puris Lintas to be board account director on Rover. The agency merged with Lowe in 1999.
