JWT appoints Lowe's Russ Lidstone as head of planning

LONDON – JWT has poached Lowe's head of account planning Russ Lidstone to take the same role at the WPP-owned agency, amid speculation Lowe Worldwide may be about to scale back its operations.

Interpublic Group's investments to beef up Lowe led to a $310m (£166.6m) write-off, calling the future of the agency as a global ad network into question.

There has been industry speculation that Lowe will have to lay off hundreds of staff members as it scales back its operations. Lidstone's defection will undoubtedly fuel these rumours.

Lidstone is succeeding Hilde Oord, whose is expanding her account handling responsibilities to a wider range of local and international clients.

Lidstone will report to Marco Rimini, JWT's head of strategy and development. Following his appointment, Rimini will take on the additional role of head of multinational strategy for all multinational business run from the london office.

At Lowe, Lidstone was in charge of the Tesco and Nestle accounts and prior to that, in 2001 he worked at HHCL and BDDH.
