C4 unveils Grand Designs exhibition after Fremantle deal

LONDON - Hit Channel 4 property series 'Grand Designs' is spinning-off into a consumer home exhibition following a deal with programme maker FremantleMedia and Media 10, which publishes the Grand Designs magazine.

Grand Designs Live! launches on June 10 at London's ExCel exhibition centre and will run for three days.

It marks FremantleMedia's first foray into exhibitions after successfully creating, producing and licencing programme brands such as ITV's 'Pop Idol' and Channel 4's 'How Clean is Your House?'.

The exhibition willl be split into four separate shows GrandBuild, GrandInteriors, GrandGardens and GrandKitchens & Bathrooms.

Viewers will be able to see behind-the-scenes footage from the TV series, which is presented by Kevin McCloud, as well as attend design seminars and lectures on building and sustainability.

Dom Wheeler, vice-president of Freemantle Licencing UK, said: "Grand Designs is one of TV's most popular home design shows and we are delighted to be working with Media 10 to bring the series to life in this unique way."

"The idea for the show originated very much off the back of the success of Grand Designs magazine, also published by Media 10," he added.

'Grand Designs' is produced by the Fremantle-owned production company, Talkback Thames, which is also behind 'Pop Idol' and 'Da Ali G Show'. It launched in April 1999 and its most recent fourth series gave Channel 4 an average 5.1m viewers or 21% audience share.

Grand Designs magazine launched by Media 10 last year and now boasts 50,000 subscribers.
