Brooke will become managing director of the broadcaster's 4 Channels division, which includes E4, FilmFour, Channel4.com and its interactive platform 4 Active.
Channel 4's digital operations were previously part of the Digital Services division, headed up by Gerry Bastable. Bastable, who was promoted to head of corporate development in October as part of a restructure of the group, is leaving the company to work on a creative start-up.
4 Channels is part of the broadcaster's commercial division 4 Ventures and the move sees Brooke step up to the newly created post with immediate effect. He will report to Channel 4 commercial director and managing director of 4 Ventures Rob Woodward.
Brooke joined Channel 4 in 1998 as head of marketing and development of pay-TV. He oversaw the launch of the FilmFour channel and was part of the team that developed E4. Before joining Channel 4, he was marketing director for the Paramount Comedy Channel.
"E4 is one of the undoubted success stories of digital television and Dan has been integral to its development. His strong management track record, both creatively and commercially, makes him the natural choice to manage our digital channels business," Woodward said.
Bastable will remain with the channel on a consultancy basis to oversee the creation of a corporate development team.
"Gerry's strategic management skills and knowledge of the digital TV marketplace have been invaluable in developing a coherent digital strategy for Channel 4 and we wish him every success in whatever he decides to do," Woodward added.
The restructure of Channel 4 last year saw it axe 200 jobs as it refocused its resources to put more investment into programming.
