Buhlmann replaces Kemoun and Rebbouh at Aegis Media

LONDON - Aegis has promoted Jerry Buhlmann to chief executive of Aegis Media Europe, Middle East and Africa replacing Eryck Rebbouh and Bruno Kemoun, who both unexpectedly quit last week.

Buhlmann has worked at the group for 13 years, most recently as chief executive of Carat International, a role he took on in 2001 as part of the reshuffle that resulted in the departure of Ray Kelly.

Before that, he had been chief operating officer of the division since 1999.

Buhlmann founded BBJ, which is now part of the UK arm of Aegis's second media-planning and buying network Vizeum.

The role sees Buhlmann take responsibility for Vizeum and Carat in EMEA. Carat chief executive Mark Craze will report directly into him.

Susannah Outfin, vice-president of Carat International Paris, will take over from Buhlmann as CEO of Carat International.

Kemoun and Rebbouh, who worked for Aegis for 18 years, are reported to have left after a series of disputes with Aegis chief executive Doug Flynn over the future direction of the company.

One of the issues they disputed was the level of investment set aside to research business Synovate, which they believed to be at the expense of the company's core media-planning and buying agency network.

Kemoun and Rebbouh's links with the company date back to 1985, when they founded 2010 Medias in association with Carat France.

They were the architects of Carat's expansion in the 90s and are considered central to key client relationships including Danone, Renault and Carrefour.
