The annual America Online Super Sunday AOL Ad Poll racked up more than 250,000 votes on AOL and AOL.com, as well as through mobile devices, with the Budweiser "tribute" ad taking 14% of the vote cast.
The ad, set in a US airport, shows people coming to their feet and clapping to welcome US troops who are returning home. The heroes' welcome the troops receive in the spot is in stark contrast to the lack of welcome those returning home 30 years earlier from Vietnam highlighting the changing attitudes of Americans to their armed forces.
Bud Light's "skydiving" spot took 12% of the vote in second place with Ameriquest's "romantic dinner" ad came in third with 8% of the vote.
A second Ameriquest spot "store trip", and Diet Pepsi's "P. Diddy" ad each had 7% to round out the top five positions.
The final results of the poll, with percentages, were:
1 Anheuser Busch Tribute to US Troops 16%
2 Bud Light Skydiving 11%
3 Ameriquest Romantic Dinner 8%
4 Ameriquest Store Trip 7%
5 Diet Pepsi P. Diddy 7%
6 GoDaddy.com Hearing 6%
7 Ford Mustang Winter 5%
8 Bud Light Sharing 5%
9 FedEx 10 Things 4%
10 Diet Pepsi Cindy Crawford 4%
Carlos Silva, senior vice-president of news and sports at America Online, said. "In just three years, the Super Sunday AOL Ad Poll has become one of our most popular Super Bowl features and is one of the largest polls available for the commercials. We look forward to continuing this tradition every year."
More controversially, the NFL and Fox pulled an ad for web firm GoDaddy.com scheduled to air for the second time during the Super Bowl.
GoDaddy.com had two spots set to air, with one featuring a fake "broadcast censorship" Congressional hearing in which a female Go Daddy spokeswoman comes close to losing her top.
The spot plays on last year's Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction, which caused so much controversy.
This year's Super Bowl, won by the New England Patriots 24-21 against the Philadelphia Eagles, passed without controversy as Sir Paul McCartney took over the half-time duties entertaining crowd with Beatles and Wings numbers including 'Hey Jude'.
