Subscribers to the service, called BT Learning Centre, will be able to choose from several content packages, each built around a home version of RM's Living Library, an online research tool used by schools.
BT has also been working with education content providers including Actis, Netmedia Education, Cyber Mind and Granada Learning to offer a wide range of education titles.
The basic subscription package, consisting of access to RM's Living Library and two additional titles, will cost 拢3.99 a month. Further packages, giving users access to Living Library alone or with two, five or seven additional titles, will be available. Free content will be offered to both subscribers and non-subscribers.
Jennie Martin, head of BT Learning Centre, said: "Our research suggests that parents and children want to use the web to help with schoolwork, but information can take too long to find and is often not relevant or presented in a style appropriate for children.
"We are providing highly relevant, easy-to-use content, tailor-made to their age group and available from just one place."
