LONDON - BSkyB has struck a deal with Microsoft to distribute its content on the latter's Xbox 360 gaming console.

The firms are tight-lipped about the nature of the deal: it is not known whether the deal will lead to live feeds of BSkyB content, or downloadable BSkyB content becoming available to Xbox users. However, it is understood an announcement will be made on Friday (29 May).

The agreement with Xbox is the pay-TV group's latest bid to evolve from a satellite pay-TV provider into a group providing content on numerous devices and platforms.

In July 2007, BSkyB teamed up with Sony to launch the first official video download service on the electronics company's portable gaming device, the PSP.

The service allows PSP owners to turn their portable gaming console into a personalised library of Sky programmes to watch on the move. Access to content is available either on a subscription or pay-per-view basis.

BSkyB declined to comment. Xbox was unavailable for comment.
