According to reports, Britney's team is currently negotiating to sell an unscripted series featuring backstage footage, called 'On Tourage'. The show aims to follow the lives of the singer and her dancers on the European leg of her Onyx Hotel Tour.
Spears will act as executive producer and narrator of the reality show, which is expected to come with a budget of around £550,000 ($1m).
The idea echoes Madonna's 1991 film 'Truth or Dare' aka 'In Bed with Madonna', which was taped during Madonna's 'Blond Ambition' tour in 1990. The film followed the singer on and off stage and publicised her then relationship with Warren Beatty.
Britney has also landed herself in hot water today over the release of her new music video for the single 'Everytime'. Britney is seen drowning in a bath after cutting herself on a glass vase. Actor Stephen Dorff, star of 'SFW' and 'Blade' plays her boyfriend, modelled on Justin Timberlake. Parent groups fear that the video could lead to copycat suicides.
Madonna similarly has a back catalogue of 'controversial' videos such as 'Like a Prayer' and 'Erotica'.
Britney has long been trying to move away from the squeaky clean image with which she launched. Of the new video, Britney is quoted as saying: "It's dark and shows me in a different light".
In a display of their mutual appreciation last September, Britney and Madonna locked lips at MTV's 20th annual video music awards, while performing Madonna's classic hit 'Like a Virgin'. The performance, which also featured Christina Aguilera, raised more than a few eyebrows, including those of Britney's ex Justin Timberlake.
