British Gas hands OgilvyOne £35m direct account

LONDON - British Gas has hired OgilvyOne to handle its consolidated direct marketing account worth an estimated £35m, Marketing can exclusively reveal.

The highly-coveted brief is one of the biggest pieces of direct marketing business and OgilvyOne won the account following a head-to-head pitch against Rapier.

Incumbents WWAV Rapp Collins and EHS Brann, which handled the energy work and home services respectively were knocked out at an earlier stage. Hall Moore CHI, Tequila/London and Archibald Ingall Stretton also pitched.

The incumbent agencies had handled their respective businesses for more than a decade. The initial review stage had been managed by intermediary AAR and British Gas brand manager, Chris Brocklehurst.

British Gas' above-the-line advertising is handled by Clemmow Hornby Inge, while media buying is handled by Carat.

British Gas declined to comment on the outcome of the pitch.
