British Airways launches mobile phone service for transatlantic flights

LONDON - British Airways is launching the first in-flight mobile phone service available on transatlantic flights.

Passengers flying with 's new business class-only service between London City Airport and New York will be able to access text messages, emails and the internet via mobile phones and Blackberrys.

The mobile service for the business class-only service, which launches tomorrow, is being provided by supplier Mobile OnAir.

‘Every aspect of this service has been designed to maximise convenience for customers to fly between the world's two biggest business centres - Wall Street and London's extended financial district in the City and Docklands,' said BA chief executive Willie Walsh.

Budget carrier Ryanair launched its own in-flight mobile service in February.
