- How would you define marketing?
Well, the CIM says it is the management process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer requirements profitably - so I guess that's it.
- What would you be if you weren't a brand manager?
I would probably have to work for a living.
- What advice would you give someone starting their marketing career today?
Don't. There is plenty of competition already, thanks.
- What attracted you to your current job?
The chance to take ownership of the biggest TV entertainment brand in the world. A quarter of a billion viewers across 70 countries? I'd have done it for free, although don't tell the boss.
- What was your first job?
Media sales, selling ad space to people who really didn't want it.
- What makes you angry?
Very little, but people getting on the Tube before everyone has got off is capable of driving me insane with suppressed rage. That and people who watch The X Factor rather than Strictly.
- If you weren't you, who would you be?
Daley Thompson or Ray Mears.
- If you were a brand, what would you be and why?
Stella. Reassuringly expensive and delivers exactly what you would expect, sometimes more.
- What's your greatest ambition?
To extend the Dancing With the Stars brand into more countries across multiple platforms and remain the number-one entertainment brand on TV for another seven years.
- What is your all-time favourite slogan?
'Solutions for a smarter planet' - IBM.
- If you could get tickets to any event, what would it be?
The Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour (tickets on sale now).
- If you had three wishes, what would they be?
World peace, an end to child poverty and for England to retain the Ashes in 2013.
- What has been your best freebie?
A week in Antigua was quite exceptionally good.
- What headline would you most like to read in Marketing?
'Sorrell names Halliwell as heir apparent.'
