BR Video: Final Big Brother brings pain and guilty pleasure

The return of 'Big Brother' for its last series on Channel 4 has been greeted with dismay by the over 30s and patchy enthusiasm from the under 30s, according to people interviewed in the latest BR Video.

Two company directors and a 55-year-old woman put down the show, one calling it "foul" and "crude".

The interviews were conducted the day after the launch show last Wednesday, .

Plenty of loyal fans remain, such as unemployed 28-year old John, who confessed to being hooked since the first series. "I should have grown out of it by now ... I know it's moronic and I know it's a waste of a life to sit and watch it for an hour every evening, which I do."

But others around his age said they didn't have time for the housemates anymore. Thirty-year-old martial arts instructor Alex said: "Haven't got time for it now. It's just very long isn't it, but I like 'Big Brother's Little Mouth'."

Emily, a 26-year-old administrator, said: "I did watch it at the beginning and I just got a bit bored of it. I just feel it takes over your life a bit. I liked it but I think it's probably had its day."

Two younger girls, in the target market of , also said they didn't watch the launch night. One said she wouldn't be watching the series at all, but the other said she would be, for "something else to chat about".

With Channel 4 facing the question of what to put in all the airtime vacated by 'Big Brother', we asked people what they would like the broadcaster to offer them.

There was no consensus here, with suggestions ranging from more home programmes, to drama, documentaries and even bringing back 'On The Buses' and similar wholesome fare.
