'Big Brother' launch night watched by lowest figure in nine years

The final series of Big Brother attracted a nine-year record low viewing figure of just over five million viewers, according to unofficial figures.

The reality series was watched by 5.036m people across C4 and C4+1. The figure was slightly down from the 5.081m it attracted last year on opening night. But Big Brother still managed to comprehensively beat the BBC's Junior Apprentice last night.

'Big Brother: The Launch' was watched by 4.575 million people between 9pm and 10.30pm on Channel 4 and an additional 463,000 viewers on Channel 4+1 between 10pm and 11.30pm.

The audience across Channel 4 and Channel 4+1 delivered 21.6% of the available audience, 39% of adults 16-34 and its profile was 45% ABC1.

The peak audience last night was 5.913 million viewers at 10pm, up from last year's 'Big Brother' launch programme which peaked at 5.687 million which was also reached at 10pm.

On the other terrestrial channels the penultimate episode of 'Junior Apprentice' captured an audience of 4.3 million viewers across BBC One and BBC HD, a 17.5% share of the available audience.

ITV's family drama 'Father & Son' was the third most watched programme last night with 3.9 million viewers across ITV1 and ITV1 HD, a 15.8% share of the available audience.
